PC's Challenge Module Series

Post by Havard »

From the AD&D 2nd Ed Adventure thread we have the following:

PC's Challenge Modules
HHQ1: Fighter's Challenge (January 1992)
HHQ2: Wizard's Challenge (June 1992)
HHQ3: Thief's Challenge (January 1993)
HHQ4: Cleric's Challenge (September 1993)
Fighter's Challenge II (March 1994)
Wizard's Challenge II (September 1994)
Thief's Challenge II: Beacon Point (June 1995)
Cleric's Challenge II (December 1995)

There seems to be alot of fondness for these modules. What was great about them? How much of a setting was provided in the modules? It seems like several of them came with the same area map.

I always felt that Fighters Challenge I was the strongest of the group. In the little module you had A LOT going on. History of this town, loads of NPC's, a challenging "main" adventure, sub-plots, and even the possibility of using it as a home base after the fact. It probably helps that I've always been a fan of fighters and this was one of the first modules I've ever bought.

That's not to say the other ones are bad; I just like this one the best. I feel the other modules left out a lot of sub-plot material that could have been added.

I've only ever had Cleric's Challenge, so I had to vote for it.
