Castle Grimstead - Any lore?

Post by Havard » Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:46 pm

Castle Grimstead is one of those miniature grid map products WotC made during the 4E era. Is anything more known about this castle? Do any other D&D products of any edition mention it? Is it located in the Nentir Vale or some other D&D setting?

No idea if the tile set is related or not, but Castle Grimstead is a ruined keep in Shadowdale. It was built to combat the drow in the area, surviving ~30 years before the drow slew its inhabitants. Its now a ruin.

That's probably it! Are there floor plans of that keep?

Not that I'm aware of. Ed probably has some, but I don't think they were ever made public. He likely used it as an adventure site at some point, I'm sure.

This product was released in 2012 to support the Rise of the Underdark adventures for 4th Edition. Note the spider-skull icon watermark on these products. These adventures take place in the Forgotten Realms, and at least one (Web of the Spider Queen) is located in Shadowdale. I don't know if these dungeon tiles are directly tied to any particular adventure from that season.

According to RPG Geek there is a fan-made adventure called Ruins of Castle Grimstead.

There is a [url=https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki ... _Underdark]Rise of the Underdark article on Forgotten Realms Wiki[/url, but I don't see the Castle Grimstead product mentioned there.. (I'm not sure if we have a Rise of the Underdark topic in the Forgotten Realms forum - or the 4e forum.)

There are two soucebooks, seven novels, a DDO expension, a D&D encounters product, a D&D Lair Assault product, a couple of other things and also a YouTube video.

Maybe one of them mentions Castle Grimstead. :?

Cool,
I ordered a copy of the grid map. Maybe I will find some use for the adventure. :)
