[Podcast] Tim Brown interview with G M S Magazine

Post by Big Mac »

Paco G. Jaen, from G*M*S Magazine has done an interview with Dark sun and Dragon's Kings designer, Tim Brown. Here is the blurb:
Paco G. Jaen at G M S Magazine wrote:Dark Sun, Dragon Kings and Tim Brown. The RPG Room

Tim Brown is the guy who made us very lucky in the early 90s by bringing Dark Sun. A setting that broke many moulds in the fantasy worlds of the time and dared do things very differently, it is very very much missed by all who knew it in its original form.

Dragon Kings was born as a spiritual successor of this world when it was apparent that Tim would not be able to continue developing Dark Sun and, ever since I backed the project, I have believed it was a really fantastic work.

Fantastic enough that I took the plunge and decided I wanted to work with the setting and bring it to Spain. And then decided that it deserved a new set of rules to bring the game into 5E. It is a perfect match, as far as I am concerned.

The thing is, even though I have played Dark Sun and Dragon Kings many, many times, and although I have emailed Tim many times in the past (as you can imagine) I had never spoken to the guy before.

With the Kickstarter for the Dragon Kings project going on, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to hammer him with questions about Dark Sun.

And he does not disappoint. Far from it!

We talked about the genesis of Dark Sun, where it came from, how it developed, what was left behind, how it panned out with Brom and Troy Denning and how things eventually got out of hand and the setting suffered because of its own success.

And of course, we talk about Dragon Kings, the differences between this work and Athas, the different races and threats and where the inspiration came from.

I really wish we could have had the whole day to keep talking about this. Seriously.

But I hope there will be more in the future. A lot more!

Thank you for listening.
It's great to see an interview for Dark Sun going up.

Whoa, I used to watch Paco unboxing all sorts of goodies, from board games to RPG boxed sets. I couldn't tell he was a Dark Sun fan, though.

Very interesting interview. I wasn't even aware that he did Dragon-Kings.

Thanks for sharing the link.
