Westron road, Blight Swamp
Scene LVII - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 18th day, 993 AC

When you do not make threatening moves, the caymen seems to calm down until one with brightly colored feathers and a staff comes in front of the others. Retameron makes a gesture of greeting him, and the caymen speaks in broken Thyatian.
"Why come you to swamp? Are you allied with the not alive man?"
Halia speaks to him in a strange language, something you think must me lizardmen, or the caymen variant of it. The caymen shaman and Halia are engaged in unintellegible conversation for a while. After that, the red haired female wizard explain and translate.
"It seems they have been more or less forced to serve Rosentos as scouts and guards, while the bronze skinned humans also serve him as food. They say Rosentos and Trinkla have a old grudge and they are not sure whom of the two possesses this black orb we seek, but they have a great treasure they would be willing to give to us if we free them from Rosentos. I think Rosentos is an abomination and we should help them and destroy him!", Halia says.
Retameron and Cardia agree emphatically with the plan.

Bofar glances Lucius briefly before speaking.
I tend to agree with you about the abimination part. But we need more information before making our move. Besides we have to plan this very carefully, with Desmond and the others included.

Retameron accepts the notion of going back to camp. Halia says to the cayman shaman they will soon be free from Rosentos' rule.
You return to Desmond and the others, other are returning too and Desmond is speaking to Alexei.
"It seems Grisbaldos does not know where the Orb is. But he is desperate in wanting Rosentos dead and insisting he is evil and dangerous", Alexei says.
"His house is well guarded by the bronze skinned humans and I believe has a vast underground. It could be very difficult to enter it and find Rosentos", Sam says.
"The humans here seem numb and afraid. Rosentos has a strict control over them, probably magical. If we attack him, I have no doubt they will defend him to the last man", Kesh says.
"Maybe we should accept Rosentos' help against Trinkla. As she stole the Orb originally, we can rule out she is kind and just, and willing to help. Once we have dealt with her, we can deal with Rosentos too", Desmond says.
"It is trickery", Arteris says, not thrilled by the idea.
"In the name of a just cause, it is fitting, as Rosentos is probably out to trick us", Retameron says.

We have to plan this carefully. I'm afraid that if we now go against Rosentos and and defeat him, we will be in no condition to attack Trinkla for a some time, there is bound to be some losses. Besides we should not forget that Skarda and his minions could be here at any moment...

"Right, let's face an enemy at the time. We will pretend to go along with Rosentos' plan against Trinkla, then we will deal with him as necessary. Now let's catch some sleep. Tomorrow we will have to continue our journey", Desmond says.
You spend a quiet night on Rosentos' island, and the next morning you return to his house. Desmond says to him you will accept his help to take the Orb from Trinkla.
"Excellent. I will give you a black pearl now. You will go to Trinkla's hideout and ask to speak with her. She will certainly be curious enough to allow you to enter. Before you arrive before her, call me through the pearl and I will help you when she will attack. Because certainly she will try to kill you", Rosentos says, giving the black pearl to Desmond.
Then he proceed to explain on a map the best route to get to Trinkla.
Soon you are ready to go on with your mission. Rosentos send a bronze skinned young man as a guide to the next village, 6 miles to the east, where he says you will be helped. Guided by the man and Shuur, you do not encounter anything dangerous and finally reach by evening a village mostly built above the water. The inhabitants are all bronze skinned as the humans in the island of Rosentos.
As soon as lookout notice you, an older man comes forth, kneeling before you and speaking in relatively good Thyatian. "Welcome masters, you can have anything you want from us. You can take men or women to help you if you want".

"I suppose they are under Rosentos' rule. We could indeed take some warriors as extra help", Desmond says.
"These people have been clearly enslaved and it would not be right to put them in danger by bringing them with us", Halia says affirmatively, soon backed by Retameron, Arteris, Fain and the elves.
"Well we can rest here at least, then we will see tomorrow", Desmond says.
You camp in the village, with the chief insisting to bring you food and asking you continuosly what else you may want.
"I wonder what the origin of these bronze skinned people may be. They look like westerners. I am not sure it would be useful to bring some of them along. This may just tell Trinkla we are after her, while we should try to persuade her to let us speak. In this case the compassionate behaviour of Retameron and the others probably has its merits", Desmond says.

The next morning you go on guided by Shuur and Inti, the bronze skinned man Rosentos sent to you. Desmond eventually does not accept any men or women from the village, to the dismay of the chief who seems worried to have failed you, and plead to at least take provisions. Desmond accept some more food and water, and insist to pay, but the chief refuses.
Arteris starts a tirade about these people being enslaved by evil, but Desmond shut her down quickly, clearly worried that the "pearl" Rosentos gave you may be able to hear everything.
The guide says you have 6 further miles to the east to enter Trinkla's territory. You walk all the day, avoiding some threats as crocodiles, carnivorous plants and snakes thanks to the experience of Shuur and Inti.
Before the evening you see some ruined houses ahead. The desolate frames of a few rude huts stand on stilts at the edge of a small, spongy hummock. The huts’ roofs are missing, and the floors have splintered and sagged into the water below. The stilts and few scraps of remaining wood are charred. Reeds grow around the huts, clogging the waterways.
The bronze skinned guide, Inti, says the village was destroyed years ago by dragon's wrath.
"We'll have to stop here and rest anyway", Desmond says. You prepare a camp while he sends Sam and Ludovico to scout the area around. They soon return to tell you they have found nothing except for the usual frogs, insects and snakes.
You camp near a hut which seems more solid and provides some cover but while you are eating Shuur suddenly stands up and the two on guard, Sam and Taran, also cry in alarm. About twenty dark figures have risen from the waters around the village. When you spot them, they start running toward you. You now see they are human figures, but their skin is unnaturally grey, the eyes shine with an unholy and malevolent light and they have sharp teeth dripping mud and slime.
"Ghouls!", Alexei cries, taking his holy symbol.

Westron road, Blight Swamp

The clerics in your group immediately raise their holy symbols. Kesh, Alexei and Sara come forward and light shine from their medallions.
About 8 ghouls run away, as if terrified by the symbols. Four more drop down in the waters, unmoving.
But there are still many more. Keio, Sharllaya, Ludovico, Sam and Taradain throw stones and darts against them. Sam and Taradain hit true, dropping down one more ghoul. Halia, Cardia, Taran and Bellithiel sends magical darts against them, dropping down three more ghouls.
Even if your prompt reactions has reduced the number of ghouls by half, there are still about 15 coming to you.
Now it's for the warriors to come forward, Arteris, Fain, Desmond, Retameron, Bofar and Lucius ready to meet the charge of the ghouls. Shuur and Inti are clearly terrified by the creatures, but try to stand with weapons ready too.
Arteris fells down a ghoul with her sword, the creature invain trying to scratch her. Still before she is able to put it completely down, the thing grabs her, and she is suddenly paralyzed, unable to move at all.
Fain too hits a ghoul enough to cleave it in half, but the rabid creature still manages to scratch and paralyze him.
Desmond destroys another ghoul and somehow resists against its paralyzing touch.
Retameron fells another ghoul, but he is paralyzed too.
Bofar hits a ghoul and kills it, but the creature was fast enough to scratch him too. The dwarf as well feels the paralysis blocking him.
Lucius hits the ghoul, but the blow is not enough to kill the creature, despite an horrendous wound which would have killed any living being. The ghoul hits and paralyze Lucius. Inti is paralyzed too and Shuur as well, even if the troglodytes manages to kill another ghoul.
Only 10 ghouls are left now, but mindless of any danger, the creatures bite the paralyzed warriors, trying to feed on them...
Kesh, Alexei and Sara again use their holy symbols, destroying one more ghoul and driving 7 away.
Taran, Bellithiel, Cardia and Desmond come forward to attack the ghouls still biting at the paralyzed warriors, but it takes the combined effort of all the others to put the remaining two ghouls down.
Frantically, the clerics heal the paralyzed warriors to free them.
"The ghoul paralysis can last from half an hour or more if not cured. And the ones we have turned will soon return!", Alexei says.
Indeed the 15 ghouls which were turned by the clerics are already approaching again, and you can see even more rising from the waters.
""Probably best to run away from this place, despite the night", Desmond says.
"We should stay and cleanse the land from this evil!", Arteris says.

That might take quite a long time... still, if we run, these ghouls might well follow. And where should we run? says Lucius, while considering whether the hut could be useful for defense.

Westron road, Blight Swamp
Scene LVI - Hwyrlen, Flaurmont 20th day, 993 AC

Soon enough after the clerics have removed the paralysis from everyone, 30 more ghouls come forward. Alexei, Kesh and Sara drive 10 more away, but at least 20 come against you. Keio, Sharllaya, Ludovico, Sam and Taradain throw stones and darts again, dropping two. Halia, Cardia, Taran and Bellithiel sends more magical darts against them, dropping down four more ghouls. The 14 ghouls left attack the warriors.

Arteris and Fain are soon paralyzed again, while Desmond manages to destroy a ghoul, and Retameron another one, Bofar and Lucius both hit a ghoul, but not hard enough to fell them, and are scratched back by the creatures, but manage to resist the paralysis. Shuur and Inti are hit and paralyzed.
Now Taran, Cardia and Bellithiel join Desmond, Retameron, Bofar and Lucius on the front line, while the cleric drive away 11 of the 12 ghouls left. The one remaining is destroyed by Bofar and Lucius.
Still about 15 ghouls which were driven away by the clerics now wait just beyond the light a chance to attack again.
"I can eventually destroy them all, but it is possible they will make some more attacks. Yet I believe we should stay and cleanse the place", Alexei says, while Sara and Kesh remove the paralysis again from those affected.
"We elves are immune to their touch, but we are just three so it may be difficult to hold a line", Taran says.
"Just stay on the front and we will do our best to support you", Retameron says.
"We will have to use thrown weapons as the spells useful against them are very few and we have used them already", Halia says.
The ghouls, now about 20, prepare another charge.

The clerics quickly remove all the paralysis, then the ghouls attack again and this time only Alexei, the more powerful cleric, uses his holy symbol, destroying 3 ghouls. Sara and Kesh instead use light to blind two of the attacking ghouls, while Keio, Sharllaya, Ludovico, Sam,Taradain and Halia use range weapons, felling the two blinded ghoul and one more.
The 14 remaining attack the elves and the warriors.
Arteris fells one ghoul but is paralyzed again, while Fain destroys one and resist the paralysis. Desmond destroys another ghoul, but is paralyzed as well, and Retameron likewise. Bofar destroys another one, while Lucius fails to significantly hurt the one facing him, but both resist the paralysis.
Shuur destroys a ghoul but is paralyzed, and Inti too.
Taran, Cardia and Bellithiel destroys two more ghouls.
Seven ghouls are still standing. Alexei destroys one more, while Kesh and Sara now come forward with maces, but both are paralyzed. Sam and Halia however take down two more with ranged weapons. Fain and Lucius kill one more ghoul each, while Bofar misses this time, but all three are paralyzed again. The elves destroy the two ghouls left, and then all is quiet in the swamp.
Alexei soon heals the other clerics and they remove the paralysis from everyone else.
Shuur and Inti are quite terrified and it takes some time to calm them down.
"We have to move the camp a bit away from this stench of death, but we will have to remain in the area for tonight. Ghouls are bad, very bad and dangerous. It's hard to resist their paralysis and once you are paralyzed, they will literally eat you alive".
"I mean, we have faced a dragon. But indeed I think I prefer death by dragon to death by ghoul", Kesh says.
"None is dead and the evil has been cleansed. Let's rejoice. Tomorrow we will get to Trinkla!", Retameron says.
"With caution", Desmond says.

You manage to sleep due to sheer exhaustion despite the creepy environment of the abandoned village, then resume your trip to the lair of Trinkla, which your human guide, Inti, explains is an ancient and big pyramid. It is indeed only a five miles distance to cover, but it takes much more than in dry land as usual. Still in the early afternoon you see the pyramid, dark and half submerged in the swamp.
Soon numerous troglodytes with black paint come near you. Shuur explain they are from another tribe than his own, and serve Trinkla.
"Be ready, when in her presence we will use the black pearl and summon Rosentos. A battle will begin and some of us should try to sneak to find the Black Orb, which will be probably hidden somewhere in the pyramid. Do you prefer to fight the main battle or to search for the orb?", Desmond ask you while you are approaching the pyramid and its troglodyte guards.

"Fine, you will go with Sam, Taradain and Kesh in search of the Orb as soon as the battle starts", Desmond says, going to inform Sam and Retameron, then proceeding to take the black pearl out as instructed by Rosentos.
The troglodytes with the black paint soon reach you and, after a short dialogue with Shuur and Inti, lead you toward the pyramid, and inside.
You pass a series of halls and corridors, all guarded by troglodytes, to finally reach a great hall full of wonderful statues in stone and gold, and a big throne. Around the throne there are standing figures which once were humans, troglodytes and lizardmen but which are now clearly undead.
And on the throne itself there is a figure dressed in black, with long black hair and a black crown. An unholy blue light shines in her undead eyes, her faces now just a skull without any skin.
"Visitors asking to parley with me, surprising. Yet I know you have visited the island of Rosentos before, so is he sending you?"
Desmond presents himself only, describing all the others as his following. He says to be in search of the Black Orb, and willing to offer anything for it on behalf of the Karameikos' government.
Trinkla laughs. "I am sorry, but the Orb has been already promised to someone else. He will be here soon and you can stay as my guests to meet him".
"And we may know who this person is?" Desmond asks.
"Sure you can, he goes by the name Skarda", Trinkla says.
"I am afraid we cannot accept that", Desmond says, exposing the black pearl.
Immediately Rosentos materializes among you from a black cloud, and Trinkla rises and begins casting a spell, while her undead advance and the troglodytes run toward you. "Fool, you and your lackeys will not stop my Lord's plans!"
"Go now!" Desmond says to you.
You can see the door from which you came to the south and two others in the hall east and west. Every directions has enemies coming, so you'll have to pass through them any door you choose.
