2nd edition: You travel to the standard AD&D Outer Planes, your soul becoming a petitioner on a plane corresponding to your alignment.

3rd edition: (Player's Guide to Faerun, pages 164-165) "The Astral Plane of Zakhara connects to the same elemental planes that connect to Faerun, as well as to a plane where the souls of the virtuous are rewarded (the Garden of Delight) and one where the wicked are punished (the Place of Fire)."

That 3e thing sounds pretty cool. I wonder if that could be retconned into a 2e Al-Qadim campaign.

Quick and dirty conversion:
Place of Fire -> Gehenna
Garden of Delight -> Elysium
