Does Calidar have an "Inner World"

Post by Chimpman »

After reading Episode 4: Flesh of the Queen I was left with the impression that Azar was fighting his endless battles for the Black Dragon Queen inside the world of Calidar. Is that the impression that others had, or am I reading something into this that isn't there?

Anyway... if true, Thorf has a much larger job in store than I previously realized. What kind of map projections do you use for a concave world?

Nicely spotted, John! I should add that I'm not surprise that it was you who first brought this up.

... but are you sure they were on Calidar? :ugeek:

 Actually no ;) They could have possibly been on or in one of the moons, I suppose. They could also be somewhere else in the solar system, or even on an alternate plane.

One sentence that led me to believe this is the inside of Calidar was this:
As in all other realms inside this world, veins of magic radiated from the ground and all that grew from it. Dragon magic flowed like rivers of power, eerie blue auras pulsing softly through snow and ice.
I know that Bruce has mentioned the substance Seitha, which fuels skyships and is the source of magic in the world (and a point of contention between the cultures of the 3 moons). One thought while I was reading the story was that Seitha could be what Azar is referring to as "Dragon magic". If Seitha is depleted from the moons and more abundant on Calidar, then it would reason that the "inner world" Azar us living in could be the inside of Calidar. Of course, there could be other explanations as well ;)

Here is a snippet from the next episode of the story, that might suggest the "Dragon World" is indeed somewhere else...
“Our foe will sail through a gate not far from the World of Calidar. The navigators’ ritual will take you there when you recall my words. Go forth with one ship and in my name destroy the threat as it appears, for it will be weakest then. To you, my love, I entrust this task, for you are best among the best.”
That kind of suggests that Azar knows what the World of Calidar is... although that doesn't preclude it from being the "outside" that Azar refers to in the previous episode.

Somewhere else indeed. :)

Here's another hint: you know how Calidar is roughly the same size as the earth? Consider also that Bruce chose to base Mystara's moons on the real world moon plus another fantasy one. Bruce has also mentioned an asteroid-field like area called The Fringe.

Extending these analogies, I think you may start to get an idea of what you might expect to see... The Soltan Ephemeris is an interesting area. :D

Yaztromo - further evidence that the world featured in the stories so far is not in fact Calidar. :D

Today's short story revealed that the world in question is called Draconia.
