I found a thread about the Edge of the Empire Beta here, but now that the RPG has been released, has anyone had a chance to check it out? Is it a traditional RPG, or does the modular approach mean it is one of those more narrative games?

I think I have it ordered on Amazon but since I pre-order a lot of stuff, it won't be arriving till July I believe.

A friend of mine bought it and ran a session. It's quite crunchy; it has a few narrative elements, but the mechanics are not really very fast. It takes many elements from WFRP 3e. Do not expect anything that plays as fast as d6 Star Wars (1e in particular.)

Not sure I like how its now faster than D6 Star Wars, especially now that MiniSix has fixed the issues I did have with that ruleset. I never got around to buying WHFPR 3e. I heard it added gimicky bits like chits and cards and things? Does Edge of Empire require the use of miniatures?

What are those narrative elements about?

I am waiting for the day when Star Wars comes full circle and returns to D6 :)

The narrative bits are "embedded" in the dice rolling, so the outcomes are not simply positive or negative, as some dice may show degrees of success and/or failure. It is quite interesting, but it's surely not as fast as rolling d6s.
I don't think he mentioned minis, I'll have to ask. But if it's similar to WFRP3e, you use minis, but distances are abstracted so you are "engaged" or "close" or "far" or "very far."

The started set arrived and it is very similar to their Warhammer Fantasty RPG in which the game has its own special dice. I will hopefully get to read through it in a couple days.
