[Islandia] BX1

Post by Raymond » Sat Oct 12, 2019 12:24 am

I've been collecting information about an Islandia campaign since I read about it at:

I just realized that the Gamma World map seems to be flooded at about the same amount.

If you want the rest of the Earth flooded out that much, I think this web site has about the right flood amount too:

I haven't bought the published modules that the Islandia author already published but I see it was published per the http://www.waynesbooks.com/NonTSRADD.html page.

Interesting. What does "which was to be separated from the normal D&D world by 'strange ocean Currents' " mean?

Was Islandia supposed to be a subsetting for Mystara? Or was this going to be a Greyhawk tie-in?

(Or would this have come out in the 2nd Edition era and been a Forgotten Realms subsetting.)

You might want to check out this other thread here at the Piazza that talks about Islandia:

John Wheeler's Islandia & Mystara

Kind of to the former question. See this answer from Bruce Heard:
Islandia was never actually written as a product. This was a proposal submitted by outside people that a well-meaning in-house manager decided to summarily dump into Mystara since it didn't fit anywhere in the AD&D worlds (none of the AD&D product managers really wanted it so I got it instead, gee thanks)... and, following some major foot-dragging, the pesky proposal went away. As such it was never really incorporated into the Mystara world.
There was also some discussion on the old MML and at the WotC forums prior to the shutdown about Islandia, including information and some hard to find scans posted by Havard. Some information is still available at the Vaults of Pandius page on Islandia, though I don't know if the gleemax/wotc forum thread was ever archived anywhere. I don't see it offhand. Havard may be able to fill in some of the gaps, though.

ETA: I also found this blog post that talks about Islandia, and has a scan of what would/might have been the cover of the product.
